Employee Reps must be elected by the workers. The joint safety and health committee supports the employer's duty to ensure a healthy and safe workplace. For example 2 managers 4 employees is good. You cannot have more management reps on your committee than employee reps. 50% can be management reps and 50% can be employee reps. It is recommended to also train 1 to 2 alternates. A Minimum of 4 members must be present at your monthly JHSC meeting. Our online or classroom 8 hour JHSC online training BC course, will assist employers and participants on how to start-up a committee at your workplace, how to effectively implement a JHSC, duties and functions of members and as a team, and the OHSR regulation. Every business with 20 or more workers is required by WorkSafeBC regulations to have a functioning Joint Health and Safety Committee in place. As of ApWorkSafeBC requires that all joint health and safety committee members in BC must receive 8 hours of instruction in JHSC Training.
